Spring is beginning to think about turning into summer, and among the lovely floral aromas wafting through the air are exotic Jasmine and sweet Geranium. In the next post, I’ll have you covered with everything you need to know about Geranium; but today we’re lifting a varied bouquet to our noses and letting dōTERRA® transport us into a flower fantasy with some sweet fragrance creations! To fully experience the delicate group of floral oils, including Clary Sage, Lavender, Helichrysum, and others, let’s create some homemade sprays to fill your home and your day with floral beauty.
Using a homemade essential oil perfume is a bold and rewarding step in purging your home of synthetic fragrances, and wearing oils as a natural fragrance allows you and your loved ones to enjoy their aromatic advantages throughout the day. When thinking about what blend fits your style, personality and preferences best, think about your go-to diffuser blend. Use that blend as a starting point of inspiration for mixing together your first perfume spray. How about combining your favorite florals with fresh citrus aromas? The following recipe builds strongly on that theme.
To make your own May Flowers Mist, you’ll need:
- 10 drops Jasmine (available through special promotion only; may substitute Jasmine Touch or another
- floral oil)
- 10 drops Wild Orange
- 10 drops Lemon
- 5 drops Geranium
- 1 tablespoon witch hazel
- ¼ cup water
Combine witch hazel and water in a small glass spray bottle and shake. Add essential oils and mix thoroughly. Mist scent over body and clothes to cover yourself with the aromatic bouquet you created, making sure to mix well before each use. Balance floral and citrus notes as desired, incorporating favorites and freely substituting for oils you may not have. Surprisingly, tipping the balance in favor of the citrus actually brings the floral side to life! Shoot for an exploding interplay between the two.
Every once in a while, even the most resourceful among us can be surprised by a new way of making something at home that we always thought we needed to buy elsewhere. The more comfortable we get using dōTERRA essential oils, the more we realize that we already possess many of the natural aromas and benefits that make those store-bought products seem so desirable in the first place. Take hairspray, for example. If you’ve never made your own, perhaps it’s time to give it a try. This recipe incorporates floral oils Geranium, Lavender, and Clary Sage, along with a few spoonsful of - get this - sugar. A hairspray for which you can pronounce all the ingredients is a must try!
To make DIY Herbal Hairspray, you’ll need:
- 1 cup water
- 4 teaspoons sugar
- 2 drops Geranium oil
- 2 drops Lavender oil
- 2 drops Peppermint oil
- 2 drops Rosemary oil
- 2 drops Clary Sage oil
In a saucepan, combine sugar and water. Bring to a boil and stir until sugar dissolves. Remove from heat and cool. Pour essential oil into eight-ounce glass fine mist spray bottle and add cooled sugar water. Use as you would any other hairspray, incorporating more or less sugar depending on how strong you want the hold to be. Be careful using citrus oils: they can lighten your hair if exposed to UV light!
With aromas known for uplifting the mood, calming the senses, and communicating the deepest affection, floral oils come together to mist you with serenity and help you bloom where you’re planted. While you’re basking in dōTERRA’s sunlit garden of spring blooms, look around you and see all that you can do with these powerful flowers at your fingertips.
